And more AI goodness…

Dear Readers,

Anthropic just declared war on AI advertising - and they're not being subtle about it. Their Super Bowl campaign features AI assistants hilariously derailing therapy sessions with dating site pitches, a direct shot at OpenAI's new ad-supported ChatGPT.

But beyond the corporate sparring, today's issue reveals how the battle lines are being drawn across the entire AI landscape: Sam Altman's trillion-dollar infrastructure bets, Amazon's scramble for exclusive OpenAI access after its own models fell short, and CATL's battery breakthrough that could finally kill range anxiety with 12-minute charges and 1.5-million-mile lifespans.

Plus, Bryan Johnson tracked 249 biomarkers before and after taking psilocybin, and the gut microbiome changes are genuinely surprising. Let's dive in.

All the best,

🔋 CATL Reveals Ultra-Durable Battery

China’s battery giant Contemporary Amperex Technology Limited (CATL) unveiled a new 5C EV battery that can fully charge in just 12 minutes while delivering up to 1.5 million miles of usable life under normal conditions. Testing shows it retains 80% capacity after 3,000 fast-charge cycles, and even in extreme heat (140°F), it still hits half a million miles, far outperforming today’s industry average. If commercialized at scale, this could remove two major EV pain points at once: long charging times and battery degradation.

🚀 Altman Still Bets Big On AI

As OpenAI CEO Sam Altman positions OpenAI for its boldest era yet, he’s orchestrating trillion-dollar infrastructure plays, new AI hardware, energy ventures, and platforms that could define daily life. With ChatGPT topping 800 million weekly users, $13B+ in annual revenue, and valuations racing toward $750B, Altman is betting that scale, speed, and relentless expansion will decide the future of AI. Critics warn of overreach and safety risks - but Altman believes history rewards those who build the scaffolding first, he told in an interview in Forbes.

🚀 Amazon Eyes Exclusive OpenAI Access

Amazon is in talks to invest tens of billions of dollars in OpenAI while negotiating special access to customized AI models built by OpenAI’s own engineers—potentially supercharging products like Alexa and enterprise AI tools. The move highlights Amazon’s push to stand out in a crowded AI market after internal model efforts lagged and as reliance on Anthropic comes with customization limits, while OpenAI seeks massive funding to cover $600B+ in long-term cloud commitments.

Anthropic really struck a nerve when they released their ad campaigns against OpenAI. More on that in the main article.

Claude Says No to Ads Forever

The Takeaway

👉 Anthropic commits to keeping Claude ad-free while OpenAI introduces sponsored content to ChatGPT's free tier - creating a clear market differentiation

👉 The company's $9 billion annual revenue from enterprise contracts and subscriptions proves ad-free AI can be financially viable

👉 Super Bowl campaign reaches 120 million viewers, positioning trust and user interests as Anthropic's core brand identity against engagement-driven competitors

👉 Watch for user migration patterns - if consumers actively choose ad-free assistants, expect pressure on the entire AI industry to reconsider advertising models

The AI assistant war just got personal. While OpenAI rolls out advertisements to ChatGPT users, Anthropic has drawn a bold line in the sand: Claude will remain completely ad-free.

Anthropic announced this commitment alongside its very first Super Bowl campaign. The cheeky commercials, created by agency Mother, show personified AI assistants awkwardly pivoting from helpful advice to bizarre product pitches—a not-so-subtle jab at competitors. One spot features a man asking an AI therapist about communicating with his mother, only to receive a dating site recommendation for "mature cougars."

The company's reasoning is refreshingly straightforward. When users share sensitive questions about health, work, or personal struggles, they shouldn't wonder whether the AI is genuinely helping or subtly steering them toward something monetizable. Anthropic believes an engagement-optimized chatbot contradicts genuine helpfulness - sometimes the best AI interaction is a short one that actually solves your problem.

With enterprise revenue exceeding $9 billion annually and backing from Google and Amazon, Anthropic can afford to take this stand. OpenAI, on the other hand, is heavily invested in the B2C sector and has an extremely high cash burn rate. Therefore, Anthropic is not subject to the same pressure to monetize as OpenAI. This is because approximately 95% of all users access ChatGPT in the free tier.

Why it matters: This decision could define how we interact with AI long-term. If users increasingly choose ad-free assistants, it may force the entire industry to rethink monetization strategies that prioritize engagement over genuine helpfulness.

Psilocybin Reshapes Gut Health

Bryan Johnson did the testig for us: Your gut bacteria might hold the key to why magic mushrooms feel so transformative. A self-experimenter just tracked 249 biomarkers before and after a 25 mg psilocybin dose - revealing what researchers are calling first-in-human observations about how psychedelics reshape our microbiome.

The results are striking. The bacterium Phocaeicola dorei jumped from zero to 8.41%, a species linked to reduced inflammation and better metabolic function. Meanwhile, Segatella copri—associated with insulin resistance—dropped by half. Bacteria connected to stress, anxiety, and depression all declined significantly. The changes weren't just in the gut: morning cortisol dropped 42%, inflammation markers became undetectable, and blood glucose stabilized by 11%.

However, the picture isn't entirely rosy. Beneficial butyrate-producing bacteria decreased, and skin health markers worsened. Scientists studying the "psilocybiome" have theorized that psychedelics interact with the gut-brain axis through serotonin pathways—about 95% of serotonin lives in our gut, after all.

This data suggests psilocybin's benefits extend far beyond the brain, potentially offering metabolic and longevity advantages through gut microbiome modulation. As psychedelic research accelerates globally, understanding these biological mechanisms could unlock entirely new therapeutic approaches.
